Affiliate Disclosure
Straight talk about how this site makes money, what that means for you, and why we still recommend only gear we’d carry ourselves.
⚡ The Short Version
When you click an outbound product link on this site and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend gear we believe in. The commissions keep the lights on so we can keep publishing free prepper content.
What Is An Affiliate Link?
Many of the outbound product links on bogriddowngear.com are affiliate links. That means they contain a unique tracking code. When you click one and complete a purchase on the retailer’s website, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale — usually 3% to 10% — as a referral fee.
Your price does not change. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your wallet. Whether you click our link or go directly to the retailer, the price tag is identical.
Which Programs We Participate In
This site participates in affiliate programs operated by retailers and brands including (but not limited to):
- Amazon Associates Program
- EcoFlow Affiliate Program
- Jackery Affiliate Program
- Bluetti Affiliate Program
- Anker Affiliate Program
- Goal Zero Affiliate Program
- Other direct-to-manufacturer affiliate partnerships in the prepping, off-grid, and outdoor categories
As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
How We Pick The Gear We Recommend
Commissions never override common sense. Here’s how a product makes it onto a recommendation list on this site:
- Research-based or trusted reputation — we either carry it ourselves or it has a verifiable multi-year track record with the prepper community.
- Honest pros AND cons — if a product has flaws, we list them. Every comparison table on this site shows weaknesses, not just strengths.
- Real-world use case — we ask “would I bet my family’s safety on this in a grid-down scenario?” If the answer is no, it doesn’t make the list.
If we earn more commission on Product A than Product B, that has zero influence on which one we call our Top Pick. We’ve passed up higher-commission products plenty of times because a lower-commission alternative was simply better gear.
Not Professional Advice
Content on this site is for general informational and educational purposes only. We are not licensed professionals in emergency medicine, electrical engineering, structural engineering, law enforcement, or law. Always consult qualified experts before making decisions that affect your safety, health, or legal standing.
Sponsored Content & Reviews
If a brand ever provides a product for review at no cost, or pays us to produce sponsored content, we will clearly label that article as “Sponsored” or “Review Unit Provided” at the top of the page. Free product never guarantees a positive review — we’ve sent gear back with an unflattering write-up before, and we’ll do it again.
